“I was ready to play on,” Johnson said. “And I looked around, and I said, ‘Are you going to do a fill?’ I’ve got every chip in the tray. I think I even had the $100 chips. ‘Are you guys going to do a fill?’…
One constantly hears that Republicans are the party of small government while Democrats are the party of big government. And, of course, the person making this claim usually makes it clear that small government is good and big government is bad.
Neo-conservative radicalization in America as a function of Islamic radicalization elsewhere.
The following is my response to a comment on a blog about how US has terrorized the world for 200 years and that much of the world’s problems are the fault of the US. They also stated that it was the whole of the US: all of its people were willful participations in its degradation of the world. Obviously I disagreed.
I posit a simple position. I assert that an ideology: neo-conservatism (which took hold Post-WW2) disproportionally benefited the established wealthy and powerful & required a broader control of the news media which insights long-term changes in public thought. Neo-conservatism was a reaction to moral relativism, the same moral relativism recognized by Qutb in Colorado, by Marx in London, etc. It is a devaluation of religious morals from the context of economic liberalism.
Your statement that the US has been terrorizing the world for 200 years is bogus. We really began to intervene internationally in the early 1900s, but our true role as “world terrorizer (or a global superpower - depending on your scope), emerged after Europe was devastated World War. The emergence of the neo-conservative ideology established the logical justification for American intervention abroad. The crux of its execution established a greater need for large media conglomerates owned and operated by a few individuals. Fox News, perhaps the most iconic of this, perpetuates this conservative & neo-conservative interpretation of philosophy, economics, and politics.
What this all means is simple: in the search of a perpetuation of power, a small fringe element within American politics grew quite radically and simply, employing techniques that utilized emotion: fear and anger, and eventually blinded many. The process is disillusion of the majority of people towards progressive values and views, which created cognitive dissonance and allowed for a more easy conversion to the professed values & platform of the neo-conservative movement.
A small fringe element hijacked American values, and used them as a cloak for political gain. Just as a small fringe element of Islam, hijacked the religion, and used it as a cloak for political gain.
I’d argue that this is the inevitability of an unbalanced world model.
Governor George Romney (R-Michigan, father of Mitt) was a passionate advocate for civil rights. Perhaps the most dramatic evidence of this passion came at the Republican National Convention in 1964, which was held, if you can believe it, in San Francisco.
